Postby Almostmini » Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:54 am

Hey Guys, it's been a very long time since i last posted here been very bust with exams.

I thought i was going to be leaving thi September to join the Royal Navy but due to a waiting list that hs been differed to next September.

So while i wait i need to have something to occupy myself, a new PC!
You guys have always been and always been the experts on this stuff and maybe you can help me with the ability to create a picture worth looking at! =D

I have so far been speced this system.

OCZ 600W StealthXstream PSU
Kingston HyperX (x2 2GB) DDR2 6400C5 RAM
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 HD- 250GB
ASUS P5N-D Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Processor -3.0GHz

Already have a Nvidia 9800GT installed on this ageing system.

Just wondering if this system will run FSX at high frames and high quality =]

Thanks
Mini

That all sounds good, but can't you stretch it to an E8600 or even an E8500? You also don't say what resolution you're hoping to run - I'd expect this to work well up to 1680x1050 widescreen, not so sure above that. After that the graphics card is probably the weak link, and you can always replace that later. And make sure you have a 64-bit OS.

(Just my own limited experience, so don't pay too much attention!)

I get the feeling this will run fine.
It's the same processor Nick has in his machine. Same GFX card, same amount of RAM. Main difference is motherboard.

Can you not get DDR3, it will make a lot of difference? Don't forget my PC is a few years old now too, it struggles when the settings are turned right up and a lot of scenery packages and aircraft these days are really require a lot of 'umph' to run them.

I don't think DDR3 helps with a socket 775 board. Here's a link I have lying around...

I got mine on the advice of Ted (txnetcop) over at SOH who is their PC guru. It would be worth posting in their forum for his or Harley Man's advice.
